Brighton College

Brighton College

Music plays a pivotal and integral role in the all-round education of the pupils at the College. The music department aims to foster an appreciation, knowledge and understanding of music ranging from classical to pop and jazz as well as music from around the world. Pupils will be constantly challenged to analyse their own and others’ performances.

Over 50% of Brighton College pupils undertake individual instrumental lessons from our highly skilled international team of instrumental music teachers. Lessons are available on all orchestral instruments, piano, voice and guitar. Pupils are encouraged to enter for the ABRSM and Trinity/Guildhall Examinations.

Music is at the heart of College life and a number of performances are given throughout the year to showcase the talents of our pupils. Music is all around us all of the time, and an ability to engage with it either as a performer or listener is crucial if we are to be any more than a passive observer.

Music and the community

The Music at Brighton College also aims to reach out into the community and connect the city with the Performing Arts. The music facilities are often in demand for touring companies and community projects are always welcome. Please get in touch with Ruth Forsythe, Director of Creative and Performing Arts for further details.
