Music

The AS and A-level Music course is intended to be stimulating and enriching for pupils and to provide an excellent basis for lifelong learning and for higher education courses in Music. At both AS and A-level, pupils experience all three main musical disciplines of performing, composing, and listening and understanding.

Further Study: The AS and A Level courses are excellent preparation for higher education courses in music, but can also offer a broad and satisfying experience for those who want to conclude their musical studies at this point. The wide range of analytical and creative skills developed and displayed during the course are widely respected; pupils offering Music as part of their portfolio of A level options are regarded favourably by leading universities across all subject disciplines.

Exam Board: Edexcel

Course Requirements: You must be of at least Grade 6 standard on your chosen instrument when you begin the course. If you have not taken the exam then a recommendation from your instrumental teacher will be required. If you are a new pupil entering the College in the Sixth Form, you will be asked to meet with the Head of Senior School Music to perform a short piece.  You should have also achieved at least an A grade in GCSE Music, however in exceptional circumstances a pass at ABRSM Grade 6 theory may be an accepted alternative.
