Brighton College

Brighton College

The course follows a broad, coherent and practical programme of study. We will encourage pupils to develop their curiosity about the living world and provide insight into and experience of how science works. Pupils will engage with biology in their everyday lives and to make informed choices about further study in Biology and related disciplines and about career choices. All teaching occurs in purpose-built Science labs by Biology specialists. The Science Department is at the heart of the school and pupils cannot fail to be reminded of the importance of science in our everyday lives as they have to walk through the department may times each day on their way to other lessons!

Year 9 & GCSE

We begin our GCSE teaching in Year 9 and follow the AQA Biology specification which leads to a separate Biology GCSE (so pupils gain 3 Science GCSEs altogether). All examinations are now terminal so pupils have to sit the entire GCSE at the end of Year 11, although 25% of the qualification is a practical examination (the ‘ISA’) and this is conducted during the school term.
