Art

At Brighton College Abu Dhabi our pupils are faced with new challenges that both fuel their imagination and encourage them to think outside of the box. We deliver an exciting curriculum for pupils allowing them to take risks and discover their own strengths and weaknesses as young artists. Their creative journeys are documented not only in their sketchbooks and portfolios but also on social media, the College website and through their end of year exhibition in the gallery. Connecting experiences to make sense of the world around us is an essential element of creativity. Drawing on a wide range of stimuli from all cultures and traditions the pupils develop their own creative voice in a supportive and structured environment. Events such as Abu Dhabi Art and Art Dubai serve as an excellent starting point for our pupils in making those connections with their local environment and the Art world on a global scale. A wide variety of disciplines are taught at Brighton College Abu Dhabi, such as printmaking, photography, sculpture and painting. We offer extracurricular activities such as digital manipulation and set design.

Year 9

In Year 9 the course builds upon the valuable foundation skills taught in Years 5 to 8 and it prepares the pupils for GCSE Art. For some pupils it will be their last experience of Art within the classroom and therefore the projects are developed to keep the experience inspirational, fun and thought-provoking.

GCSE

In Years 10 and 11 we offer Edexcel Art GCSE to all pupils. With a broad range of experiences and expertise within the Art department the course will allow pupils to pursue their own ideas in sculpture and ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, digital and analogue photography. Art and Design is a very unique subject within the curriculum.  It is a subject which focuses on the development of an individual’s ideas, confidence in problem-solving and modes of self-expression. Skills and techniques will be included within the structure of the course but in essence it is about being able to express yourself, the world and what is around you. The Art department has an open door policy, which enables pupils to develop a positive work ethic and dedicate as much time as they can to keeping up with the demands of the course.
