Pupils enter the Senior School of Brighton College Abu Dhabi in Year 9, at the age of 13. Upon entering the Senior School, pupils join a House where their pastoral welfare is overseen by a Housemaster or Housemistress alongside their Tutor. We operate a vertical tutor system with pupils in Year 9-11 or Year 12-13 tutor groups. We are very proud of our pastoral care programme which has been rated at the highest level, 'Outstanding' by Abu Dhabi Education Council.
The core curriculum through years 9-11 consists of English, Arabic, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In Year 9 pupils also attend classes in History, Geography, Computing, Design & Technology, Art, Drama, Music, PE and choose to study two foreign languages from French, Spanish, Mandarin and German. In Years 10 and 11 pupils usually study a ten GCSE programme consisting of English Language, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics plus four 'option' subjects from the above Year 9 list. All Muslim pupils study Islamic Studies as part of their curriculum in either Arabic or English.
In Years 9 - 11 pupils also follow a PSHE programme through six 'themed' well-being days looking at broad topics such as healthy living, keeping safe and emotional health. Alongside these pupils follow a personally tailored study and life skills programme. Each pupil works with their tutor to identify their own needs and areas they would like to develop. They then select modules from 100s of online short courses many of which give pupils certification and even University credits!
In Years 12 and 13 pupils study for their A-levels, more information can be found in the Sixth Form link to the left.
