Brighton College

Senior School

Pupils enter the Senior School of Brighton College Abu Dhabi in Year 7, at the age of 11. Upon entering the Senior School, pupils join a House where their pastoral welfare is overseen by a House Master or House Mistress alongside their Tutor. We operate a vertical tutor system with pupils in Year 7-9, 10-11 or Year 12-13 tutor groups. We are very proud of our pastoral care programme which has been rated at the highest level, ‘Outstanding’ by Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge. The core curriculum through years 9-11 consists of English, Maths, Arabic, Moral Education, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. All Muslim pupils study Islamic Studies as part of their curriculum in either Arabic or English.

Pupils in Years 7-9 also attend classes in History, Geography, Computing, Design & Technology, Art, Drama, Music, PE and choose to study two foreign languages from French, Spanish, Mandarin and German. In Years 7 and 8, pupils follow the ISEB Common Entrance curriculum culminating in the 13+ examination. They also study Philosophy for Children and follow the Accelerated Reader programme.

In Years 10 and 11 pupils usually study a ten GCSE programme consisting of English Language, English Literature, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics plus four ‘option’ subjects from the Year7-9 curriculum with the addition of Photography and Business Studies. Our specialist Careers Advisors support pupils’ progression and facilitates a bespoke week of Work Experience for Year 10 pupils every year.
