Languages

All pupils study French, Spanish and German in the Prep School from the beginning of Year 3 as part of the MFL carousel where they study a term of each language. This is designed to expose children to many different languages and give them the opportunity to ‘try something new’. Once pupils enter Year 5 they may choose any two languages from French, German, Spanish and Mandarin to study for the next two years. In Year 7 as pupils begin the Common Entrance curriculum pupils are required to concentrate their efforts on one MFL subject. They may continue a second language as a lunchtime or after school club.
Mandarin

In Mandarin classrooms, teachers aim to foster an environment of exploration, friendship and interaction while not forgetting repetition and practice to succeed in language learning. Our lessons create a culture-rich, activity-rich curriculum which makes the most of a multi-media leaning environment. With a wide range of speech events, such as role playing, drama activities and games, we form a foundation for Mandarin acquisition for the long term.
